TUTUNDJIAN LEON

EGHICHE TADEVOSSIAN 1870 - 1936

Born in Etchmiadzin, Tadevossian, a master of plein-air painting, had a fine perception of the rainbow play of the sun's rays, of light and shade, atmospheric perspective and nature's mood. He revealed himself as an Impressionist in hundreds of superb studies, all marked by his amazing, flickering brushwork. Feeling the need for a contemporary artistic language, Tadevossian moved on and arrived at the Post-impressionist style of pointillism.

Tutandjian Leon 1904 - 1967

Tutundjian's work still awaits full and fair assessment. Apart from one drawing, there are no works by him in Armenia, although interest has been growing in France since his death. Tutundjian was born in Amasia in Turkey. In 1915 he was sent to Greece with thousands of other orphans and from there he moved to Paris in 1923. When we realise that only two years later he had a well-received one-man show in the Galerie Ney, we can begin to understand his natural talent. He is considered the Armenian Salvador Dali.
