Type: Domed Single Nave Basilica Location: Date: XIIIth-XVIIth centuries Evidence for date: Important details: State of preservation: Reconstruction: Summary: The church known as Shoghakat ("Drop of light") stands within an imperfectly preserved fortified wall not far from the church of St. Hrip'sime. The single nave basilica with a dome on a high drum is characterized by the compactness of its volume. It was built in the XVIIth century on the site of an earlier (XIIIth century) building. Some of the wall elements of the apse may go back to the Vth century. The porch presents elegant motifs derived from Islamic art.
