The mission of Academy for Educational Development AED is to develop and implement training programs and study tours for Armenian government officials and private sector representatives.

AED has been in Armenia since August 1994. AED is the prime contractor to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to implement training programs for the Armenian government officials, as well as private sector representatives. At the initial stages, most of the programs were conducted in the USA. Over the past six years types of programs, as well as geography have changed. Currently, AED programs are conducted in the USA, European countries, NIS, and in Armenia. Those vary from 2-week short-term technical programs to two-year Master's degree academic programs. Since 1994, more than 5,000 professionals have participated in AED programs in the following areas: banking, privatization, energy, accounting, revenue forecasting, rule of law, media strengthening, NGO development, social sector reform, and many other.

Overall, since 1994, USAID on its different contracts with AED has obligated over 13 mln. USD for training programs.

Current activities Currently, the training programs fall target the following USAID strategic objectives: growth of competitive private sector, investment increased, a more economically sustainable and environmentally sound energy sector laws are enforced and adjudicated impartially, increased citizen participation in the political, economic and social decision-making process, strengthened social safety net, regional activities.
