Hrant Alianak has a long and wide-ranging career as a playwright, actor, producer, and director. The author of 14 plays, he made his debut as a writer in 1972 at the Théâtre Passe Muraille with TANTRUMS. Other plays he has both written and directed include his Gangster trilogy -- NIGHT, PASSION AND SIN and LUCKY STRIKE -- as well as THE BLUES, THE BIG HIT and THE WALLS OF AFRICA. LUCKY STRIKE has been performed in New York, Washington, Liverpool, London and Tel Aviv; THE BLUES has been performed across Canada; and his newest play, THE WALLS OF AFRICA, won three Dora Awards including Best Production. In 1992, he formed a production company, Alianak Theatre Productions, which has produced more than 20 plays including Richard Kalinoski’s BEAST ON THE MOON and Araxi Arslanian’s ROGUES OF URFA. In addition to directing more than two dozen theatre productions, Hrant Alianak has also directed opera and television and has acted in over a hundred television programs and films. His TV credits include a movie he directed, MICHAEL AND KITTY, nominated for 3 Gemini Awards, and recurring roles in ROBOCOP, MORE TEARS, NIKITA, NERO WOOLFE and MONK, as well as in two new upcoming comedy series, JEFF LTD., and HOTEL. He is currently working on a new play as well as a screenplay of THE WALLS OF AFRICA. PLAYS
