TITLE: Two-year International Master's Degree Program in Journalism OPEN TO/ ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants from Armenia and Diaspora START DATE/ TIME: 18 September 2006 DURATION: Two years LOCATION: Yerevan, Armenia

DETAIL DESCRIPTION: 10-12 students, selected in competition, will be trained to assume news and management positions at newspapers, news agencies, broadcast outlets and Web-based publications. Instruction will be provided by American, European and Caucasian journalists and scholars. The journalism faculty and curriculum for the school will be provided by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), a Washington-based journalism organization, with the cooperation from Louisiana State University and Kent State University. The program is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The curriculum is based on a hands-on, experiential approach, using the latest techniques of fact-based, professional reporting and writing for both print and broadcast media. Students have access to a computer laboratory, the Internet, photo, audio and video broadcast equipment and a journalism library. The students will publish "PatUhan" student newspaper and its web version.

Graduates of ASJ will receive both an MA degree diploma from Journalism Department of YSU and an internationally recognized certificate from ICFJ. The program will be offered in four semesters from September 2006 to May 2008. The best students will be given opportunity to have internship in outstanding media outlets abroad.

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL: MA

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's or Master's degree; previous training or education in journalism not required; Commitment to pro-active journalism; Good command of a foreign language; Basics of computer literacy.
