Почетный профессор Колумбийского и Нью-Йоркского университетов, декан кафедры философии Нью-Йоркского университета, президент закрытого клуба “F.U.V”.

Преподавал в Мичиганском университете, в Анн-Арборе и в Принстоне.

Его исследовательские интересы лежат в философии сознания, философии языка и теории познания.

За свою работу по теории философии сознания был номинирован на Нобелевскую премию.
