Gushchyan, Arman Гушчьян Арман (b. March 14, 1981, Yerevan). Armenian composer, now resident in Russia, of mostly orchestral and chamber works that have been performed in Europe and elsewhere.

Mr. Gushchyan studied piano at music schools in Yerevan from 1989-91 and in Moscow from 1992-96, where he also studied composition from 1997-2000. He later studied computer science and mathematics at the State Institute of Steels and Alloys in Moscow in 1998-99. He then studied composition with Roman Ledenyov and orchestration with Valery Kikta at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow from 2000-05 and there graduated with excellence. He has had post-graduate studies in composition with Roman Ledenyov and in musicology with Larisa Kirillina at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory since 2005.

Among his honors are a diploma in the All-Russia organ composition competition in Moscow (2002, for Fantasia) and an honorable mention in the Skryabin competition in Moscow (2002, for String Quartet). His music has been performed in Armenia, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, and the USA, including once at the Moscow Forum (2003), once at the ISCM World Music Days (2004, Switzerland) and twice at the Moscow Autumn festival (2004-05).

Mr. Gushchyan is also active in other positions. He co-founded with Kuzma Bodrov the Young Composers Club at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2001, with whom he has since served as its co-director and has organized numerous seminars and workshops with Russian composers.

He has lived in Russia since 1992.
