The Armenian society is vastly in ignorant and indifferent towards the Christian Values. The recent years have brought an escalation of crime, corruption immorality – often openly broadcast. Moral and psychological degradation of the Armenian society is apparent. These and many other problems faced by the Armenian society served as the basis for a group of intellectuals to come together and establish the “Christian Peoples’ Unity of Armenia” NGO in Armenia with the mission of promoting the establishment of strong Civil Society and turn Armenia into a truly democratic constitutional republic.

In the cours of 2003-2005 the working group, headed by Mr. Gevorg Babayan, conducted three conferences in Armenia. During those conferences issues and general concerns relating to the role of Christianity in various civil and political levels of society were addressed and discussed. Those conferences resulted in the establishment of the “Christian Peoples’ Unity of Armenia” NGO in Armenia.

On 27 January 2006 the CPUA (Christian Peoples’ Union of Armenia) was officially registered in Yerevan, Armenia as a Non-Governmental Organization.

The CPUA is an Ecumenical organization guided by the principles of three churches: Apostolic, Catholic and Evangelical. It is also a member of ECPM (European Christian Political Movement) based in the Netherlands, which is an association of more than 15 European political parties and/or Non-Governmental Organizations operating throughout the Europe. Although the “Christian Peoples’ Unity of Armenia” is not a religious organization, it has adopted the mission of enforcing and enhancing the preservation of Christian values and principles in all levels of civil and political life.
