Throughout 8 years of its existence YFA has encompassed a number of educational, benevolent and intercultural projects and activities, aimed at fostering values of democracy, humanism and global citizenship.

The Association is formed upon and will follow the principles of cooperation, free will, democracy, humanism, legality, and self-administration. For the purpose of promoting the values of democracy, freedom, and peace the Association has the following major goals and objectives: Contributing to the task of development of a democratic society by broadening and improving the understanding of peace, democracy, humanism and cultural progress. Providing educational, cultural, scientific and informational exchanges between young people of Armenia and other countries. Providing training and consulting aimed at developing infrastructure related to youth, children and education. Participating in humanitarian, rehabilitation and development projects organized by international organizations in Armenia and abroad. Uniting participants of FSA FLEX Program from Armenia, and contributing to alumni movement in Armenia and CIS countries. Conducting Community Service activities.

Major Projects

“Sustain To Advance” School Sustainability and Parent Teachers Association (PTA) Promotion Project This project targets the need to assist additional 60 school communities countrywide in acquiring both the capacity and resources to improve the quality of life of children and sustain technical capacities provided to them within the scope of “Armenia Connectivity 2000” as well as other similar assistance programs.

The Project includes: Creation of PTAs; Development of Educational Center, which provides the PTAs with Informational and Technical Assistance; Trainings for PTA members from participating schools; Publication of Newsletters; Technical assistance to PTAs in execution of their activities; Consulting (public relations, proposal writing, etc.); Library and other supporting materials; Providing Internet access to PTAs in the Resource Center; Creation of Virtual Resource Center on the World Wide Web; Small Grants Competition

“Colours of Childhood” and “Colours of Childhood 2” Projects The goal of “Colours of Childhood” Project was to use capacities of modern information technologies for creating a Virtual Art Gallery and is aimed at creating a powerful tool for development of child art. The Gallery provides exceptional opportunity for young artists to demonstrate their artworks to the immense Internet audience, and promote development of child art. In December of 2003, the Project received funding for its extension.

“Colours of Childhood 2” project will provide young artists from 253 Internet connected schools of Armenia with an exceptional opportunity to demonstrate their artworks to the wide Internet audience by collecting the artworks of the most talented students through means provided by Internet.

South Caucasus Youth Councils Initiative The Program, implemented in partnership with Catholic Relief Services, is designed to empower youths through the formation of youth councils to make positive contributions to their schools and communities. Youth Councils of three secondary schools from Gegharkunik and Yerevan regions will receive training in leadership, communication and teambuilding skills, needs assessment and proposal writing. Participating youths ages 14-17 will be granted the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge by designing their own program to address a self-identified need in their own school communities as well as will have a chance to meet, identify needs and create a program together with youths from other schools.

“Using Readers in the Classroom” English Teachers’ Training The Project is aimed at introducing new methodology and techniques of English language teaching by providing teachers with necessary skills and mechanisms for fully exploiting the English readers and using those in English classrooms as well as enhancing vocabulary and speaking skills. The Project is implemented in partnership with British Council Armenia.

“Young Entrepreneurship Promotion Campaign” The Project was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the entrepreneurship concepts and business thinking among young segment of the Armenian population and providing them with feasible support for further business initiations.

“Manifesto: Right To Decide” Public Awareness Campaign on People with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID)

The overall goal of the Project was to foster integration of intellectually impaired people into the mainstream of society by contributing to the national policy-making on Intellectual Disabilities. The Campaign was implemented in Coalition with 5 other local NGOs, with the financial support of Open Society Institute-Budapest.  As a result of the Campaign a Manifesto on the rights of people with intellectual disabilities was presented to decision-making bodies of this sphere as an appeal for National Strategy Development.

“European Union – Problems and Tendencies” Tele-Debate Series Project The Project included four TV-debates, which touch upon various aspects connected with current successes and problems of the European Union, as well as the ways of EU development and expansion. Debating teams were formed of outstanding university students. Main goal of the project was to provide a wide range of information to the public and increase public awareness on the issues of the European Union.

“CEDAW Promotion Campaign” Project The Project was aimed at increasing awareness on The Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), which had been ratified by the Republic of Armenia in 1993. For the purpose of increase of awareness the following tools were used: “CEDAW and Women’s Rights” Trainings organized for PTA members; “Guaranteed Rights vs. Traditions” TV Debate; Seminars on CEDAW conducted by the participants of “CEDAW and Women’s Rights” Trainings for their community members.
