Consumers Rights Protection Union NGO was founded in December 1996. The mission of the Union is the protection of consumers' rights and interests. To accomplish the above mentioned mission and objectives the Union implements the following activities:

Research about the public opinion; To support the organization of the independent expertise of goods and services; To provide the consumers and the population with the information about the quality and range of produced and suggested food and non-food goods; Through the lectures, seminars and the consulting services to organize the informative-consulting assistance to consumers concerning their rights; Use of Mass Media for the dissemination of knowledge about the quality of foods, services and goods, as well as about the consuming culture and the efficient management of the family budget; To support the scientific researches connected with the tasks concerning consumers' rights and interests protection; To assist the organization of various custom goods exhibitions; Suggestions to raise the quality of the goods, which are dangerous for people life and health and for environment or suggestions to prohibit the turnover of these goods.

The supreme body of the Union is the General Meeting, but during the time interval between the meetings the Board is considered as a supreme body. The President of the Union simultaneously implements the functions of the Executive Director. Currently there are 107 active members in the organization. The staff is 7 workers. The Union closely cooperate with Regional and International similar organizations and since 1998 the Union is a Founder of Consumer Federation of Caucasus (Georgia). Since 1999 the Union is a member of Consumers International Union (London). The Union also closely collaborate with ConFOP (Russia), Consumers Defense Association of the Czech Republic, Earth Science Institute, Practical Answers to Poverty, National League of Consumer Organizations of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan), Union of Independent Consumers (Azerbaijan), Consumers Union of Georgia and with other local and International Donor organizations (Eurasia Foundation, AAA NGO Center, Open Society Institute, etc.).

Projects Projects

Currently the Union is implementing the regional program (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan) on the monitoring of the goods with poor quality illegally penetrated into the market. The Union together with Anna National Consumers Association created the Certification Agency of independent public food and consumer services.

Some programs are prepared with Central and Eastern Europe countries to prohibit the turnover of foods containing genetically changed organisms and the programs for the creation of appropriate legislative field. With our partners of CIS countries we prepare the programs for conducting the training courses on consumers experimental education in schools and institutes, as well as cooperation with these countries in the sharing of experience and in the formation of joint field of the activities.
