History

Established: 1934 Consecrated: Original location in Philadelphi

Sanctuary: The parish owns its permanent sanctuary, which is not the original one. The previous building was at Marshall and Susquehanna Streets in Philadelphia, PA, from 1942-64. The current 11-acres was bought in 1956 and the parishioners built the church building.

Important Events: The parish burned its mortgage in 1944 for the original building and in 1978 for the new location. It hosted the Diocesan Assembly in 1945, 1970, and 1976 (together with Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church). The parish witnessed the ordination to the priesthood of Rev. Fr. Arten Ashjian in 1948 and Rev. Fr. Levon Arakelian in 1950. It celebrated the 25th anniversary of Abp. Tiran Nersoyan's ordination as a priest in 1954. The parish hosted a visit by His Holiness Catholicos Vazken I in 1960. An arsonist burned the church down in 1964. Abp. Shnork Kaloustian, Patriarch of Constantinople, visited in 1970 and 1974. The parish hosted the 36th Annual Assembly of the Armenian Church Choir Association. It celebrated the 50th anniversary of its creation in 1992 and the 30th anniversary of their new building's consecration in 1996.
