Биография

Родился в румынском городе Тулча в 1934 году.

В Румынии семья Коюмджянов оставалась до 1939 года. Разразилась Вторая мировая война, и американское посольство настоятельно посоветовало своим гражданам вернуться в США. Вот таким образом в пятилетнем возрасте Тигран Коюмджян оказался и обосновался в Чикаго.

В студенческие годы, проведенные в университете Висконсин, Тигран Коюмджян преуспевал в изучении практически всех дисциплин - от физической химии до истории европейской цивилизации. Он получил в университете Висконсин степень бакалавра европейской истории, в Американском университете Бейрута - степень магистра арабистики, а также защитил докторскую диссертацию на факультете ближневосточных и средневосточных языков и литератур Колумбийского университета в Нью-Йорке, получив степень доктора философии и арменоведения.

В 1977 году Тиграна Коюмджяна приглашают из Парижа во Фресно для преподавания нового курса арменоведения в Калифорнийском университете. Там он реорганизовал армянское студенческое общество и основал университетскую газету на армянском языке - «Армянское движение» (1978-1979). В 1985 году он организовывает Центр арменоведеческих исследований.

Профессиональная карьера профессора Тиграна Коюмджяна прошла длинный и непрямолинейный путь. Свою преподавательскую деятельность он начал более сорока лет назад в Американском университете Бейрута; несколько лет он вел курс гуманитарных наук в нью-йоркском Колумбийском университете; преподавал историю ислама и был помощником Центра арабских исследований в Американском университете в Каире. В начале семидесятых годов он руководил отделом арменоведческих исследований в гимназии Айказян, затем вновь вернулся в Американский университет Бейрута, где несколько лет исполнял обязанности профессора истории Армении и Ближнего Востока.

В 1976 году ЮНЕСКО посылает профессора Тиграна Коюмджяна в Ливийскую Арабскую Республику со специальной миссией - обучать сотрудников археологических музеев особенностям и секретам нумизматики и хранения древних монет. Еще некоторое время спустя ученый арменовед переезжает в Париж, где преподает классическую, средневековую и исламскую историю и искусство в Американском университете Парижа.

Тигран Коюмджян способствовал реализации обменной программы между Ереванским Государственным университетом и университетом Фресно, и в рамках этой программы проработал несколько лет на факультете иностранных языков и литературы ЕГУ.

В 1987-1991гг. Тигран Коюмджян заведовал кафедрой армянского языка в институте Восточных языков Парижского университета. [1]

Тигран Коюмджян является иностранным членом НАН РА, членом десяти ученых советов, одним из учредителей и руководителей общества арменоведческих исследований. Он также член редколлегий пяти научных арменоведческих изданий.

Организация выставок

Среди них - большая выставка, посвященная средневековому армянскому искусству, в которой экспонировались 210 объектов, включая 30 двухтонных хачкаров. Каталог выставки занял 470 страниц. Другой знаменательной выставкой является экспозиция художественных работ Сергея Параджанова. Таких выставок - более чем достаточно.

Научная и преподавательская деятельность профессора Тиграна Коюмджяна

Его выдающиеся заслуги в области арменоведческих исследований, а также организационная работа многократно отмечались самыми высокими и престижными наградами. Ему неоднократно присуждалось звание «Выдающегося профессора года», «Университетского ученого года», «Человека года».

Впечатляющим является научно-издательская деятельность ученого. Он издал двенадцать фундаментальных монографий, опубликовал более ста академических статей и исследовательских работ, выступил с докладами на 80 с лишним международных научных конференциях. Он является инициатором и организатором многих важных конференций, посвященных армянскому народному эпосу «Давид Сасунский», армянской архитектуре, Мовсесу Хоренаци, резне армян в Адане, творчеству Вильяма Сарояна...
