Missak Baghboudarian
Syrian Armenian conductor.
Born in Damascus he started studies at Damascus State Music School with Maestro Juneid (musical theory) and Maestro Cynthia Al Wadi (piano); he graduated in 1987.
In 1990 he was admitted to the High Institute of Music in Damascus. As a student of the Institute he gave several concerts and attended several classes with many teachers from France and Armenia.
In 1994 he followed his first lessons in orchestral conducting with Sulhi Al Wadi, dean of the Institute and Principal Conductor of the Syrian National Orchestra; in December 1994 he made his debut at the Congress Auditorium in Damascus, in front of an audience of 3000.
As Assistant Conductor, he collaborated to the production of the first opera in Syria (Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell, in collaboration with the British Council).
In 1996 he won a scholarship, granted by the Syrian Government in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for attending specialized Orchestral Conducting courses in Italy. In Italy he has conducted the orchestra "B. Maderna" of Forlì and the orchestra "Amadeus" of Florence. He has also conducted several concerts with the Choir "Harmonia Cantata", where he usually works as instructor. He conducts the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra.
