On the exterior, the church in its original form was completely surrounded by walls. The building was placed on one stilobate of two steps, which introduced a strong longitudinal development.
Unlike the previously built churches of Tekor and Dvin, Bagavan was originally built with a dome. This represented the stylistic development of Armenian architecture of the time, in which the cupola served as the focal point. Bagavan along with the surrounding walls is completely destroyed today.
