Биография

Родился 07.01.1919 в Бейруте (Ливан), в армянской семье. Родители бежали из Турции от Геноцида армян и приехала в Палестину. [1]

Донабедян получил свое раннее образование в школе квакеров и впоследствии, по стопам отца, занялся изучением медицины в Американском университете Бейрута.

В 1940 году Донабедян получил степень бакалавра, а в в 1944 году доктора медицинских наук. Работал в Британской миссионерской больнице в Иерусалиме. Когда в 1948 году началась война по разделу Палестины, он переехал в Американский университет Бейрута, где занимал ряд учебных должностей и стал медицинским офицером всего университета.

Проявил растущий интерес к качеству медицинского обслуживания и здоровью населения. Появилась возможность изучить эпидемиологию и управление службами здравоохранения в Гарварде, где он получил степень магистра в области здравоохранения (1957).

Не желая возвращаться в Ливан из-за политических волнений, остался в США с женой и детьми.

Он стал неклиническим учителем и исследователем в Нью-Йоркском медицинском колледже (1957-1961гг.). После был завербован Школой общественного здравоохранения в Мичиганском университете. Он провел всю свою профессиональную жизнь там, став заслуженным профессором общественного здравоохранения в 1979 году, и продолжал работать доцентом до своей смерти в г. Анн-Арборе, штат Мичиган, США.

Исследования

Донабедиан проанализировал литературу исследований медицинских услуг, которая появилась в 1950-х и начале 1960-х годов, и представил свои выводы в длинной статье в 1966 году под названием «Оценка качества медицинской помощи». Это суммирование и анализ принесли ему немедленную известность и по-прежнему широко цитируются и читаются: она был переиздан в 2005 году. В ней он излагает необходимость изучения качества медицинского обслуживания в аспектах структуры, процесса и результатов.

Большая часть его последующей работы была подробным изложением концепций и методов, необходимых для изучения этих фундаментальных аспектов здравоохранения. Он был ранним представителем системного управления в службах здравоохранения. Он стремился определить каждый аспект качества в системах здравоохранения и предлагал модели для измерения в более чем 100 статьях и 11 книгах. К ним относятся доступ к медицинскому обслуживанию, полнота и точность медицинских записей, предвзятость наблюдателей, удовлетворенность пациентов и культурные предпочтения в области здравоохранения. Суммирование его усилий можно найти в его трилогии «Исследования в области оценки и мониторинга качества» (1980-1985), обширная работа, которая касается всех аспектов обеспечения здравоохранения.

"Donabedian model"

Разработал модель "Donabedian model" концептуальную модель, которая обеспечивает основу для изучения медицинских услуг и оценки качества медицинской помощи. Согласно модели, информация о качестве медицинской помощи может быть взята из трех категорий: «структура», «процесс» и «результаты».

Структура описывает контекст, в котором осуществляется уход, включая здания больниц, персонал, финансирование и оборудование.Процесс означает транзакции между пациентами и поставщиками на протяжении всей сферы оказания медицинской помощи. Наконец, результаты относятся к последствиям медицинского обслуживания для состояния здоровья пациентов и групп населения.

La Fundación Avedis Donabedian (FAD) был основан в 1989 году и является органом управления "Instituto Universitario Avedis Donabedian". В 2006 году присоединен к университету Барселоны как центр с собственной правосубъектностью.

Его миссия состоит в том, чтобы сотрудничать с профессионалами, школами, государственными учреждениями, гражданами и профессиональными организациями и другими государственными и частными учреждениями с целью повышения качества медицинских и социальных услуг, получаемых гражданами. Премия Аведиса Донабедиана

Фонд Аведис Донабедиан, в сотрудничестве с рядом авторов, разработал Положение о награде им. Аведиса Донабедиана. Награды начали вручаться с 1993 года. 

для тех учреждений, которые у них был план качества как путь к совершенству, и которые могли бы продемонстрировать результаты, достигнутые в плане улучшения ухода и удовлетворенности пользователей могли публиковать свои работы и получить заслуженное признание.
