ProfessorSchool of Electrical and Information EngineeringThe University of Sydney, AustraliaProfessor Minasian holds position as the Director of the Fibre-optics and PhotonicsLaboratory (FPL), and has also served as the Head of the School of Electrical and InformationEngineering at The University of Sydney, Australia.He received the B.E. degree from the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia, theMSc degree from the University of London, University College, London, U.K., and the PhDfrom The University of Melbourne, Australia. He is currently a Chair Professor with theSchool of Electrical and Information Engineering, The University of Sydney, Australia.His research encompasses optical signal processing and telecommunications, andcurrently centers on photonic signal processing, microwave photonics, broadband opticalcommunications, and optical phased arrays. Professor Minasian has authored 291 researchpublications in these areas. In 2011 he was recognized as an author of one of the top 1% mosthighly cited papers in his field worldwide. He also holds several patents. He has held grantsfrom the Australian Research Council continuously over many years. He is an AssociateEditor of Optical Fiber Technology, and has frequently delivered invited papers at premierinternational conferences.Professor Minasian is a Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,USA), and is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America. He is also a Fellow of the Instituteof Engineers, Australia. He has served on the Australian Research Council as a member of theCollege of Experts. Currently he is appointed by the Commonwealth and the AustralianResearch Council to the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative to assessresearch quality excellence in Australia. He is a member of the Technical Committee onMicrowave Photonics of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (IEEE MTTS).He was the recipient of the ATERB Medal for Outstanding Investigator inTelecommunications, awarded by the Australian Telecommunications and ElectronicsResearch Board. Professor Minasian was elected in 2011 a foreign academician of theNational Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
