NGO’s mission is to assist people in most unfavorable conditions including: disable people children studying in auxiliary schools children in children’s homes single elderly people single mothers, childless families, adoptive parents and adopted children women exposed to violence homeless children and adults refugees is dormitories minority groups NGO’s goals and objectives are: to conduct public awareness campaigns to carry out programs promoting elimination of poverty and economical development (e.g. in the spheres of tourism, construction, Internet, etc.) to conduct human rights and gender research to organize training courses of applied arts, computer, foreign languages, music, etc to conduct conferences, seminars, workshops, monitorings, roundtable discussions to promote activities aimed at provision for accessibility of all the spheres for disabled people to conduct public awareness campaigns

Projects 2002 - 2003. “Disability and Women.” The World Learning/USAID-funded project is implemented by a 9-NGO coalition. A monitoring of the rights of disabled women and female carers of persons with disabilities is carried out within the framework of the project. 2003 (since January). “Provision for the Electoral Rights of Disabled and Elderly People.” Funded by World Learning/USAID. A monitoring of physical accessibility of all Yerevan’s polling stations for wheelchair users has been executed. 2003 (since February) “Implementation of the U.N. Standard Rules in the Caucasus.” Implemented with support of International Alert. Collaborating with the “Pyunic” Association for the Disabled of Armenia, the “Unison” NGO is preparing a report on the realization of the U.N. Standard Rules in Armenia 2003 (June 30 - July 4). Participation in the “Rights into Action” International Congress of Young Disabled People (Swansey, Wales). “Unison” delegate represented Armenia at the Congress. 2003 (July). Within the framework of a World Learning/USAID-funded project “Unison” published a color booklet named “Disability in Armenia”. On 1 September, 2003 under the grant from the Open Society Institute (Budapest) implementation of the project entitled “Manifesto: The Right to Decide” will be started. The project will be executed by a “Unison”-led 6-NGO coalition. The project is aimed at protection of rights of people with developmental disabilities.

history

The Unison NGO was registered on 22 May, 2002. The organization has implemented numerous projects throughout the years of its activity; these projects were aimed at equalization of opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people, to promote accessible environment for people with mobility impairments. Unison has created several websites, among which the most notable ones are the official website of Komitas Vardapet (www.komitas.am) and the official site on issues of persons with disabilities (www.disability.am). Unison also takes care of the logistics of the Paros Chamber Choir – the only wheelchair choir in the world (www.unison.am/choir.htm).

On 11 June 2005, Unison NGO was awarded the top prize of “Mashtots-1600” contest for the official website of Komitas Vardapet.
