Биография
Когда был создан факультет искусств и наук в Гарвардском университете в 1969 году, Томсон был назначен на кафедру (факультет впоследствии был назван в честь армянского святого и ученого Месропа Маштоца). Томсон занимал эту должность до 1992 года, когда он принял кафедра арменоведения (под патронажем Гюльбенкяна) в Оксфордском университете в Англии.
В 1984-1989 годах он был директором научной библиотеки «Думбартон-Оксе».
Томсон перевел на английский несколько старинных армянском, сирийских и греческих текстов, и написал два учебника на армянском языке.
