History

This was the first Armenian Church built in Canada, in 1930. A small Armenian community had started to take shape at the turn of the 20th century, and by 1926 a small parish council was formed, a school to teach Armenian three nights a week was established, and a choir assisted the Devine Liturgy periodically celebrated in St. Barnabas or St. Thomas Anglican churches by a visiting clergyman. A successful fundraising in 1929 enabled the community to construct their own church in 1930, complete with a school and a cultural center, when the community consisted only of 95 families. The building was renovated in 1995. The current pastor is Rev. Fr. Datev Melengitchian.
