UNCITRAL (The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law)
The UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules are frequently chosen by parties who do not opt for the rules of any specific institution.
The UNCITRAL Rules may be used in arbitrations which are not administered by, or conducted under the auspices of, any arbitral institution. As such, they may be characterised as "stand alone" rules. However, for parties preferring a combination of UNCITRAL procedures and an appointing and/or administering body, the AAI is willing and able to perform either or both of these functions.
The AAI may be designated as the appointing authority by the Secretary-General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, upon the application of a party. Alternatively, parties may provide in their contract for an appointing and/or an administering role for the AAI.
The AAI will also act as the administering authority for disputes subject to settlement under the UNCITRAL Conciliation Rules.
Other Services
AAI's free information service covers the following areas: Furnishing general information and assistance in connection with both international and domestic dispute resolution. Answering enquiries concerning any proposed conciliation, mediation or arbitration in Armenia. Providing information on arbitration law and procedure relating to international arbitrations in Armenia. Giving information on appropriate forms of arbitration clauses. Advising on arbitrators' fees. Making any relevant enquiries of and arrangements with arbitration centres elsewhere in the world.
Parties should nevertheless obtain separate legal advice when necessary.
