Sisavank dates back to the late 7th century and is one of the most exquisite examples of the Avan-Hripsime type, with equi-diameter apses. A double-band of squinches forms a transition from the square sub-dome foundation to the octahedral foundation of the dome drum. There are more apses in the eastern chambers and wonderful reliefs (half-length representations of the monastery’s sponsors) on a level with smaller squinches. Some of its 7th century wall paintings have also survived
